There are two types - the bulbous shape which gives good bow protection and has a through line attachment for fine/emergency adjustment and the 'S' shape which is slimmer and lighter but still provides extra protection - this can be pulled into the hull and has a strap around the middle for secure three point attachment. These are great bits of kit when you're tying up single handed - nose the boat to the pontoon, lash the tiller over and leave in forward tickover..
