Description
This top of the range Davis Master Sextant features a full field dialetric Beam Converger with a quartz hard coating replacing the more conventional half silvered mirror. This results in the horizon and astrobody images combining in one full field to provide a reliable sighting even under the most difficult conditions. The special mineral coating detects different wavelengths of light greatly increasing accuracy so that the horizon, sun and stars are transmitted in differing colours. The Deluxe Mark 25 is also equipped with a long lasting LED light, with a push-on switch, which provides a flood of soft light over the arc and drum and is less draining on the batteries which will last up to ten times longer than they would with regular bulbs. Nb: a traditional split image can be created by adding an extra Mark 15 mirror. A sextant has many fascinating uses, not least the means to navigate without technology. From readings it is possible to derive your position by latitude and longitude, the passage of the sun, the local time, your position related to others. It can also be used, to send messages via flashing mirrors if you know Morse code, to people out of voice range.
